Bottomland is essentially a labor of love, a love of live music. The barn has received the loving touch of a number of experienced craftsmen and artists, improving the structure, plumbing, wiring, decorating, equiping, and arranging. The design is modular and quite flexible, allowing for events ranging from formal presentations, to free-form parties, to a work annex of the greenhouse, to horticulture workshop space. The sound and the lighting is designed for the comfort of those who attend. The rule for events is bring your own and pot luck. Donations to the musicians and club are welcome, no cover is charged for most musical events.

At Bottomland, the emphasis is on friendship and music in a relaxed atmosphere. The barn attracts extraordinary musical talent, many of the artists having published multiple CD's. This group is drawn from the Austin and Houston areas, with a long and diverse shared history that has intertwined musical styles to give a familiaity to the music performed at the Thursday jams, parties, and house concerts. It is for this friendly and appreciative atmosphere that Bottomland exists.
